HONG KONG, Sept 21 (AFP) - The head of the World Health Organization said Monday that the swine flu virus had apparently not yet mutated into a more serious disease and that the development of vaccines was proceeding on track.
A total of 40,000 doses of the 400,000 doses of anti-H1N1 vaccine ordered by the Health Ministry are expected to arrive in Malaysia by the end of next month, said its minister Liow Tiong Lai.
As the awareness on H1N1 influenza increases, more members of the public can be seen wearing masks in their efforts to check the spread of the H1N1 virus in the country.
The supply of antiviral medicine for treatment of Influenza A (H1N1) is sufficient to meet the needs of patients in government hospitals and clinics, as well as those in private hospitals.
No death from Influenza A (H1N1) was reported in the country for three consecutive days, with the death toll due to the virus still at 68 people until today (23 August), Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said.
No fatalities were recorded for the second consecutive day, as 310 Influenza A(H1N1) cases were discharged from hospitals as of 8 a.m. today (22 August).
"The private clinics or hospitals may not have adequate facilities, they may not be skilled in treating such cases or the patients may have serious complications.
