The Education Ministry continues to take precautionary measures against influenza A(H1N1) to prevent its spread during Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) starting today.

PARIS, Oct 6 (AFP) - A vaccine for run-of-the-mill flu also provides some protection against swine flu, especially the severest forms of the disease, Mexican scientists report on Wednesday.

All Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) candidates will be screened for their body temperatures as part of preventive measures against Influenza A(H1N1), Education Director-General Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom said.

Influenza A(H1N1) is still active and spreading in the community despite a reduction in cases off late, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican.

WASHINGTON, Oct 4 (AFP) - US health authorities are hoping to contain what they say is an intensifying swine flu pandemic with a massive A(H1N1) vaccination campaign that begins this Tuesday.

No influenza A (H1N1) related deaths have been reported in weeks, leaving the death toll at 77 people.

The Health Ministry reminds people that the spread of the Influenza A(H1N1) virus is still prevalent eventhough there has been a reduction of cases recently.

The treatment must not be worse then the disease itself. If the flu virus A H1N1 remains as such, is there a need to mass vaccinate? Is it not better to maintain good health and personal hygiene.

Precautionary measures and awareness programmes carried out by the authorities to combat the spread of Influenza A (H1N1), has resulted in disease remaining under control throughout the country, since no deaths were recorded since Sept 19.

The government is putting in place all necessary preparations to face the second wave of the Influenza A(H1N1) pandemic, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said.
