Another group of 307 pig farmers are waiting for the Court of Appeal to hear their final appeal to be allowed to sue the government for claims arising from the Nipah outbreak a decade ago.
The government stuck to its guns Tuesday (15 July) and wants the country’s highest court of appeal to throw out the suit by 184 pig farmers affected by the Nipah disaster a decade ago. It said the suit is frivolous and vexatious.
The Federal Court is expected to hear Tuesday (15 July) strenuous arguments by the government to overturn an earlier Court of Appeal decision to allow 184 pig farmer affected by the Nipah disaster a decade ago to sue the government for negligence.
The viral encephalitis outbreak which affected workers in the porcine industry, was caused by a then unknown virus later identified and tagged as Nipah.
The Federal Court in Putrajaya will begin hearing Monday (14 July) the government’s final attempt to stop 185 pig farmers from suing them for alleged negligence arising from the Nipah virus epidemic a decade ago.
