My Sinchew/ FACTIVA

Welcome the new Malaysia

I have flown back in time to vote. My wife, Kim, returns on May 4 from Indonesia where we have been serving as missionaries for the past three years. They were forced to bring home the ballot papers and mail back their votes to a specified office or family member in Malaysia, so that their votes can be put into the ballot boxes on May 5!

The nightmare 14 years ago

Regardless of whether the BN is going to stay in power or Pakatan Rakyat is going to make history in the 13th general election, the DAP will be a winner and the only threat now would be the issue of hudud laws.

Umno's test

Theoretically, Umno will be in an invincible position according to these data. However, Umno faces a great wave of change this time and if the people think that the BN, particularly Umno, has changed not enough, they would choose to support Pakatan Rakyat.

Accuracy of the poll

It depends on our understanding about the poll to conclude whether the poll is accurate.

Two-party system might change the state system: Nai Chee

Wong explained that there are 222 parliamentary seats in our country and regardless of BN's or Pakatan Rakyat's representatives, Muslims are the majority. If the country really becomes a theocratic Islamic country, these elected representatives would not go against the doctrine to restore the theocratic country into a secular country due to religious exigencies.
