PETALING JAYA, Apr 3 (Sin Chew Daily) -- Mineral water manufacturer Spritzer confirmed that the made-in-Malaysia "Cactus" brand of mineral water bottle found some 400km off the southern coast of Perth, Australia, was from the product introduced by the company last September.
However, the company felt the bottle was found there probably because it had been dropped by some sailor into the sea.
When contacted by Sin Chew Daily, the person in charge at Spritzer's Yong Peng factory Mr Lim said based on the picture published on the newspaper, he confirmed the bottle was from the product launched by the company last September.
"We can be sure from the label on the bottle that it is from the product that we launched last September. The label on the bottle has been slightly modified, and is the same as the one shown on the picture."
He said the mineral water bottle was found off the southern coast of Perth most likely because the sailor had thrown it overboard from the ship after finishing the drink. However, he said his company did not supply the mineral water product directly to MAS nor sell it in Australia.
"We export our mineral water products to Singapore and many of the purchasers there will sell our mineral water to the ships berthing at the port. The most likely condition is that when one of the cargo ships have travelled to Australia, the sailor onboard dropped the bottle into the sea.
"We are very sure the mineral water was produced by us here. And if we can get the particulars from the bottle label and know the exact pH value of the mineral water, then we should be able to confirm whether the product was bottled in January this year.
"We don't supply to MAS directly, and it is unlikely for MAS to purchase the mineral water through the suppliers, as they will get from us directly for bulk orders."
