Exclusive Interview With The Kedah MB: Kedah Chinese Have Absolute Freedom

Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak said that many Chinese judge the Kelantan PAS government based on the reports from the mainstream media, and are thus uneasy about PAS.

He said such situation is similar to how people link China with communism in the past.

“Many people now travel to China and understand about their economic, development, education and other areas. Many fears have been dispelled.”

He assured the Kedah Chinese that they will continue to live in a comfortable environment and will continue to have absolute freedom in the economic, education, and development areas. They can enjoy the opportunities in various areas, in keeping with “a peaceful and tranquil Kedah”.

He said that the only difference between the Chinese, Indian and the local government is “Muslim” and “non-Muslim”.

“However, Muslims and non-Muslims share some common perspective, and Islam does not allow slander and violence. Non-Muslims need not worry.”

“I encourage the people to see what’s happening in Kedah for themselves. They can eliminate their doubts by having a look on how the people of all races live together without fear.”

He said that some representatives from Chinese organisations visited him after he took over the office. However, he hoped that the state government will continue to exchange ideas, have dialogues and seek consensus with the Chinese organisations and chambers.

“Prior to the general elections, I am glad to see many non-Malay have pledged their support for us. It brings a different political situation. The elections results showed that the Chinese have given us strong support in gaining Kedah”. (Sin Chew Daily)
