Malaysia: Deputy Menteri Besar To Be Malay

SHAH ALAM, MALAYSIA: It would be better for a Malay to be the deputy menteri besar as he or she would have to assist the menteri besar in religious affairs, said Selangor Sultan' private secretary Datuk Lela Bakti Datuk Muhammad Munir Bani.

Muhammad Munir said the Formation of Selangor Government Laws 1959 do not stipulate that the deputy menteri besar has to be a Malay but only one deputy menteri besar is allowed by the laws.

He said in the press conference Wednesday (12 Mar) that duties of the Menteri Besar included religious affairs and when he is not in the country, his deputy would have to handle all his duties. Therefore, there might be problems for non-Malay to be the deputy menteri besar. (Sin Chew Daily)
