Malaysia: Elections 2008 Result Update 5

PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA: The Barisan Nasional (BN) will form the next Government after it has won more than half the parliamentary seats.

However, the opposition has successfully denied its 2/3 majority after they won 82 parliamentary seats. BN won 139 parliamentary seats. Hulu Rajang parliamentary seat in Sarawak will have its voting by Sunday (9 Mar) morning. A longboat carrying its officers and the ballots papers capsized in the swift-flowing Rajang River Saturday (8 Mar).

The opposition won Penang (29 out of 40 state seats), Selangor (34 out of 56 state seats), Perak (31 out of 59 state seats), Kedah (22 out of 36 state seats) and Kelantan (39 out of 45 state seats).

Among the important persons who lost their seats were Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, Datuk Yew Teong Look, Datuk S. Kayveas, Datuk Tan Choi Ho, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, Chia Kwang Chye, Datuk Donald Lim, Mah Siew Keong and Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin. (MySinchew)
