Police classify Zhen Zhong's disappearance as 'missing person report'

SHAH ALAM, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- The case of missing six-year-old William Yau Zhen Zhong is still classified as a 'Missing Person Report' as no ransom was demanded from his family to secure his release, said Subang Jaya police chief ACP Yahaya Ramli.

He said the police believed an individual might have met the boy who was reported missing in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya on Wednesday, before hiding him at a location.

"We have also received many calls from people, with regard to the case, and three of the callers said they spotted Zhen Zhong. However, investigations later revealed the information was untrue.

"Apart from distributing pictures of the victim, an early warning system on missing children known as NUR Alert has also been activated," Yahaya told reporters at the boy's home in Section 25 here today.

On Wednesday, the second of three siblings was reported missing in Jalan Putra Mahkota, Putra Heights near here when he alighted from the family car to look for his parents who had gone into an eletrical shop.

Meanwhile, Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil visited the victim's family today.

Met by reporters, the former women, family and community development minister said she would assist Zhen Zhong's family and the police to locate the boy by distributing the victim's pictures, via, 22,000 Wanita Barisan Nasional branches nationwide.

Apart from that, she said the Wanita Umno Sayang Squad nationwide had also been deployed to find the boy.

The boy's father, Yau Kok Kang, 32, has appealed to those keeping or taking care of Zhen Zhong to return him to the family or leave him in a safe location to enable the family to fetch him.
