BATU PAHAT, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- The government has allocated a total of RM498 million as schooling aid to 4.98 million students throughout the country who will receive RM100 each.
Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said this cost did not include the allocation for schooling aid for private school students as well as students of the Sekolah Agama Rakyat.
"This aid will be disbursed beginning Jan 15 and it is expected to be completed by next month. The government actually provided an allocation of RM540 million for schooling aid this year but we have yet to receive the data on the actual number of students in private schools and Sekolah Agama Rakyat," he told reporters after a gathering with the residents at Parit Gantung, here today.
The schooling aid of RM100 was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when tabling the 2013 Budget.
This would be the second payment made for all students of primary and secondary schools regardless of the income of their parents.
Meanwhile, Mohd Puad said the Education Ministry had spent a total of RM3.8 billion for various subsidies and aid to students throughout the country.
The amount included expenditure for educational scholarships, supplementary food programme, 1Malaysia milk, text book aid and tuition subsidy.
