Blogger files defamation suit against Nga Kor Ming

IPOH, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- The blogger known as 'Sekupangdua', whose actual name is Ahmad Sofian Yahya, filed a suit against Perak DAP secretary, Nga Kor Ming, seeking an injunction and general damages over an article posted on the opposition leader's website on Sept 12.

At a press conference today, the blogger's lawyer, Norali Nordin, said that the suit was filed at the High Court registry, here at 11 am yesterday and the writ of summons would be served on Nga in the near future.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Sofian claimed that among Nga's statements on Sept 12 which he considered defamatory were, "Umno blogger retracts all defamatory statements..." and "on the agreement of Umno blogger Sekupadang Dua, whose actual name is Ahmad Suffian Yahya, to retract all defamatory and prejudicial statements against Taiping member of parliament Nga Kor Ming..."

He further claimed that the statements were not true and baseless and alleged the Taiping member of Parliament had a malicious intent to ruin his reputation as a blogger and portray a negative message of him (Ahmad Sofian) to the public.

The statements appeared to convey the message that the court had declared as defamatory the article on Ahmad Sofian's blog titled,"Panas! Bongkar Nga Komeng dan Pakatan Rakyat Menyamun!" (Hot! Expose on Nga Komeng and Pakatan Rakyat Robbery!), while the matter had actually been settled out of court, he said.

"In fact an agreement was reached on June 22 for Nga to withdraw his defamation suit and on the judge's advice I too agreed to withdraw my counter claim and the article on Nga from my blog," he said.

However, on Sept 12, Nga posted an article on his blog titled, "Umno blogger retracts defamatory statements and promises the court he will not repeat allegations of abuse of power", said Ahmad Sofian.

On Jan 3, Nga Kor Ming filed a defamation suit seeking RM10 million in general damages from Ahmad Sofian Yahya for writing and posting the article titled ,"Panas! Bongkar Nga Komeng dan Pakatan Rakyat Menyamun!" (Hot! Expose on Nga Komeng and Pakatan Rakyat Robbery!).

It was later understood that both parties had settled the matter out of court with Nga withdrawing the suit and on the advice of the court, Ahmad Sofian also agreeing to withdraw his counter claim.
