US not supporting moves insulting any religion: envoy

CHIANG MAI, Thailand, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- In the wake of movements taken by Thai-Muslims living in Chiang Mai against the movie, "Innocence of Islam," which insulted Prophet Muhammad, United States Ambassador to Thailand Kristie Kenny says she is not worried about any violence, stressing that Thailand and the US have had long sound relations and that her country respected expressions of every group.

Kenny told reporters here on Wednesday that the United States does not support any movements that insult other religions, which she believes would help to prevent the conflict between Muslims and the US from escalating further.

Kenny said she is confident that the situation should improve soon, Thai News Agency reported.

The ambassador further noted that a warning against travelling to Thailand for US citizens would not be needed because the Thai government has prepared plans for security for Americans and other foreign tourists.
