Don't touch on sensitive religious matters: Jamil Khir

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom today reminded all quarters not to touch on matters related to Islam or other religions as they were deemed sensitive issues.

"We also would like to remind all quarters, locally and abroad, especially those who don't really understand Islam, not to touch on such a matter," he told reporters after receiving the Mufti of Ukraine Syeikh Akhmed Tamim here today.

Jamil Khir was commenting on the Perak DAP chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham's recent tweet questioning whether Muslims were wasting too much time and energy in protesting the controversial anti-Islam film, titled "Innocence of Muslims."

Describing the remarks as provocative, the minister said for Muslims across the world, all efforts to defend Prophet Muhammad would be on top of their priorities and shouldn't be questioned by any quarters.

He said the sentiment was also shared by religious ministers of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Jamil said they were also planning to sent an official request to YouTube to take into consideration the protest staged by Muslims across the world over the controversial film.
