NEW DELHI, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- Facebook's user account has reached 955 million, with India, Indonesia and Brazil representing a key source of growth at 29 per cent as at the end of June 30,2012, compared with the same period last year.
Facebook said it had 59 million active users in India as at end June 30, 2012, an increase of 84 per cent compared to the same period in 2011.
Indonesia saw an increase of 24 per cent to 55 million and Brazil a 146 per cent jump to 54 million, it said in its second quarter filing recently.
However, of the 955 million active users, 8.7 per cent or 83 million are fake accounts, said the social media company.
"We estimate that duplicate accounts, an account that a user maintains in addition to his or her principal account, may have represented approximately 4.8 per cent of our worldwide monthly active users as of June 30," it said.
The remaining 3.9 per cent could be user-misclassified and undesirable accounts, representing user profiles that are intended for among others, spamming.
