IPOH, July 29 (Bernama) - Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon says the names of Gerakan members picked as Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates can be dropped anytime by the party if they do something stupid.
"The list is the result of screening and evaluation. However, if they do something stupid, wrong that provoke anger of the people, they will be not be picked as candidates," he told reporters after opening Perak Gerakan delegates conference here today.
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said those on the list are constantly monitored to ensure they work hard to solve problems faced by the community.
He said although society is supportive of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the 1Malaysia concept, the local people need candidates who can work for them.
"We are grateful that more people understand the good intentions and honesty of the prime minister. It is important for us to choose and put up good candidates who have confidence of the local community."
He said Gerakan would evaluate findings of political studies done by certain universities because the party received different feedback from other sources.
The party need to be careful and treat it as a challenging campaign and continue the struggle, especially in Penang.
"More importantly, we must take the approach to win support of the people through our commitment of promises kept and people first.
"This is very important because we also receive reports on the contrary and will use them as guide as we have to make every vote count."
Koh did not deny that the votes of the Chinese are still uncertain although the votes of the Malays and Indians are seen to have returned to BN.
However, it did not mean that Chinese votes were unimportant so that Najib and BN remain committed to serve and meet the wishes of people of all races.
