GEORGE TOWN, July 24 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested a suspect believed to have caused the death of a woman in a snatch theft at the parking area of the Rifle Range Flats on July 10.
Penang CID chief, ACP Mohd Nasir Salleh said the suspect, a 40-year-old lorry driver, was nabbed in that housing area yesterday evening.
"The man was seen going round and round on a motorcycle and behaving suspiciously before he was nabbed by police on patrol in the area," he told reporters, here, today.
Early morning on July 10, Tan Kim Chuan, 60, became a victim of a snatch theft while going out to work.
A CCTV recording of the incident showed Tan falling down with her head hitting the road surface and she being dragged for a few metres before she was found lying by the roadside by members of the public.
The victim died the same day after undergoing surgery due to blood clots in her brain.
Nasir said the initial investigation showed the suspect having three previous criminal records for robbery and drug abuse.
He said the man was being remanded to facilitate the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
