JOHOR BAHARU, July 14 (Bernama) -- Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin wants Gelang Patah Barisan Nasional (BN) to go all out to defend the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat at the 13th general election, which he said, will be held 'anytime soon'.

The deputy prime minister, who is also BN deputy chairman, said BN should retain the Gelang Patah seat as the state administrative centre, Nusajaya, was located in the parliamentary constituency.

"I call on every member of Umno and BN component parties in Gelang Patah to go all out to defend the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat. There's no time to rest now. We must work hard 24 hours a day to ensure victory for BN."

Muhyiddin said this when opening Gelang Patah Umno delegation meeting, which was also attended by its chief Datuk Abdul Aziz Sapian.

The Gelang Patah parliamentary seat is currently held by MCA's Tan Ah Heng of the BN. The two state seats within the Gelang Patah parliamentary constituency are Nusajaya and Skudai.

The Nusajaya state seat is currently held by Umno's Abdul Aziz, while the Skudai state seat is held by Johor DAP chairman Dr Boo Cheng Hau.

Rumour has it that DAP will field Dr Boo as its candidate for the Gelang Patah seat at the next general election, and that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) also wants its Johor PKR chairman Datuk Seri Chua Jui Meng to contest for the parliamentary seat.

Muhyiddin said Nusajaya, as the state administrative centre and with its various infrastructures and educational facilities, was among the most developed areas in Malaysia.

Apart from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), the Gelang Patah parliamentary constituency also housed several private world-class institutions of higher learning such as the Newcastle Medicine University Malaysia, Marlborough College and the first Legoland theme park in Asia.

Muhyiddin also reminded Gelang Patah Umno member to set aside their personal differences and stay united to ensure victory for BN.

He said Umno members in Gelang Patah should support the candidates selected by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to contest for Gelang Patah parliamentary and state seats.

"Anybody can be chosen by the prime minister, we just have to give our undivided support and work harder to ensure their victories. Their victories are our victories," he said.

Muhyiddin also called on Gelang Patah MCA members to double up their efforts and work 10 times harder to ensure the party's victory in the constituency.

The success in defending the Gelang Patah constituency, he said would also contribute to the BN's efforts to retain power at the federal level in the next general election.

The deputy prime minister also announced an allocation of RM500,000 for the implementation of various people's projects in Gelang Patah.
