HOUSTON, July 13 (Bernama) -- Texas has scored top position in a business news channel's 2012 rankings of top states in the U.S. for business, local media reported Thursday.

In the sixth annual study of the U.S. TV channel CNBC, Texas scored 1,604 points out of a possible 2,500, Xinhua news agency quoted the Houston Chronicle.

The Lone Star State, which was No. 1 for the third time in the CNBC annual rankings, finished first this year in six of ten categories that CNBC used to compile its rankings.

Texas topped the list in infrastructure and transportation and third in cost of living. However, it scored 26th in education, 28th in the cost of business and 35th in quality of life.

Texas led the top 10 states that include Utah, Virginia, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Colorado, Georgia and Wyoming.

The bottom 10 states in the survey are New Jersey, Louisiana, Delaware, Connecticut, Nevada, Mississippi, Alaska, West Virginia, Hawaii and Rhode Island.
