GEORGE TOWN, July 9 (Bernama) -- The Municipal Council of Penang Island (MPPP) is prepared to return payment for car parking fees at the Market Complex in Balik Pulau to members of the public who had paid on July 1.
MPPP Council member, Gooi Seong Kin said the action followed a misunderstanding between the council and a representative of the contractor appointed leading to uneasiness among consumers.
"At the moment, the site is free until a date to be announced later and members of the public could claim their money at the Balik Pulau MPPP counter next Monday with the original receipt," he told reporters here today.
He said MPPP had been receiving many complaints from members of the public last week when the car park had not been fully completed.
He said on July 1, a representative of the contractor who was appointed started collecting payment for one and half hours and less than 200 consumers had to pay for their parking lots when it was not fully completed.
Gooi said the car park which has 2,091 lots would be using the coupon and electronic system (smart tag) and was expected to be completed soon.
In addition, PMC had also cancelled all summonses issued on that day.
