Foreigners behind ATM thefts in Klang Valley

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur Deputy CID Chief ACP Khairi Ahrasa says foreigners are behind the theft of automated teller machines(ATM) in the Klang Valley last month.

"This is based on footage of closed circuit television at the ATMs. The police are trying to identify the suspects," he told reporters at Police Day celebration at Jinjang police station, Sentul here today.

The celebration to mark the 205th anniversary of Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) was launched by Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh.

On May 25, an ATM machine with RM200,000 was stolen from a shopping mall in Balakong, Seri Kembangan.

The next day, an ATM machine at University Light Rail Transit (LRT) station was stolen incurring losses of over RM61,000.

On May 28, thieves failed to steal the ATM at a hypermarket in Pantai Dalam after the alarm went off.
