KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 (Bernama) -- The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in May rose 1.7 per cent year-on-year, up 0.2 per cent month-on-month, the Statistics Department said today.
The CPI for January to May increased 2.1 per cent compared with the same period last year, it said.
The index for food and non-alcoholic beverages and non-food for May was up 3.0 and 1.2 per cent, respectively, as compared with May last year, it said in a statement.
However, when compared with April this year, the index for food and non- alcoholic beverages rose by 0.7 per cent, while the index for non-food was unchanged.
Between January and April, the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages and non-food was up 3.2 per cent and 1.5 per cent, respectively, it said.
