BUTTERWORTH, June 20 (Bernama) -- The haze situation which hit the country recently has not affected port services and the exit and entry of ships at Penang Port.
Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) Marine General Manager Shahruddin Zakaria said most of the vessels entering Penang were international ships equipped with navigational equipment to prevent collision.
"There are no problems with port operations, ship movement and others. We have not stopped any marine operations and ferry services are also going on as usual," he told reporters after a blood donation campaign and health and dental checkup event organised by the PPSB, here today.
Several areas in Penang which experienced moderate haze made a turn for the worse with unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings of between 78 and 101.
According to the Department of Environment website, as of 7am today, API readings for Seberang Jaya was unhealthy with a reading of 101
He said the PPSB will cooperate with the Meteorological Department, Department of Environment, Health Department and Marine Department to monitor the haze in Penang.
