TM launches online marketplace for local content

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) today launched the My1Content portal, an online marketplace for local contents, aimed at assisting Malaysian content developers gain a foothold locally and exposing them to regional and international content markets.

Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Zamzairani Mohd Isa said My1Content was a platform that allowed content and application providers to interact with potential buyers and brokers.

"The ecosystem created is geared towards increasing the value of local content industry by encouraging the creation of more local-based companies to reap the benefit of the market share," he said at the launch of the portal tonight by Minister of Information, Communication and Culture Datuk Seri Utama Rais Yatim.

Being the country's first premier content service delivery platform, My1Content would host various genres of locally-produced creative content, providing an integrated platform for videos, music, movies, online games and applications.

It was developed by TM in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture.

Meanwhile, Rais said the communications and creative content industry was set to generate more than RM40 billion annually via partnerships at the international level.

From this amount, RM11 bilion will be through creative content.

Towards this purpose, the government has agreed to organise the Kuala Lumpur creative content and communication industry marketing and exhibition event (KLCCCIM) this year.

"The exhibition will bring forth local contents to the international level and we will hold this event every year as it would bring benefits to the industry and country," Rais told reporters here.

On the My1Content portal, he said the development of the portal was in line with the country's creative industry policy which encouraged the participation of government linked companies, private sector and multinational companies in supporting the government initiatives to further develop the industry.

"The development of the platform, which acts as a digital market, has the potential of pushing up innovations in local content development and helping the smaller suppliers reach a wider market," he said.

To date, there are 48 applications with multitude of uses, 50 films and animations as well as music from several local indie groups on My1Content, he said.
