(Relaxnews) - Muscle cars have traditionally been viewed as fueled by half-fuel, half-testosterone, but a pioneering design on show at this year's SEMA Show (October 30 - November 2) could be about to change all that.
The Ford Mustang, up there with the Chevy Camaro as one of the world's most iconic muscle cars, has been given a new makeover as part of a project to highlight the influence of women in car customization.
Dubbed 'High Gear', the concept is the inaugural winner of the SEMA Mustang Build Powered by Women, which asked the public to view three concepts all designed by women and vote for the design they would like to see built by a group of women.
Designer Jennifer Seely, who works for Ford and will now bring the car to life, said that the inspiration behind High Gear was fusing luxury with the concept of power for which the Mustang is known.
The concept includes rose-gold chrome accents throughout the interior, which has been heavily redesigned with Seely's personal taste in luxury products and brands, resulting in quilted suede seats and leather wrapping much of the interior.
On the outside, the rose-gold theme has continued on the front end, with the same trim and distinctive headlamps, while the rims of the vehicle are finished in chrome satin too.
The finished design will debut at the 2012 SEMA Show, and will then be auctioned on eBay to raise money for a scholarship fund -- although Jennifer Seely recognizes that there is a bigger goal.
"I think it's an amazing time for women and I think it's an amazing time for design," she says.
"I think in the automotive industry not enough people are necessarily getting recognized or see value in it due to the fact that it's been a male world for a long time and I think it's a great time for women to actually step forward and say I want to be a part of this."
