Police question Azmin over Jan 9 rally

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Police have recorded a statement from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Deputy President Azmin Ali today in relation to the Jan 9 rally, in support of de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, on the day of the Sodomy II verdict.

Police who have classified the case under Section 41 of the Sedition Act 1948 had called up Azmin for questioning.

Azmin arrived at the Kepong police station at 11am with his lawyer N. Surendran.

"I was told that I was being investigated under the Sedition Act based on a police report made by Sentul Police Chief ACP Zakaria Pagan on Dec 30, 2011, claiming I had planned for a rally on Jan 9, 2012.

"What is shocking is that the report was made on Dec 30, 2011 while the police had given their consent for the gathering on Jan 6. So why continue the investigation now? he asked when speaking to reporters here today.

Azmin said apart from basic questions normally asked by the police, he was also asked of his alliance with PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin in organising the gathering.
