UNITED NATIONS, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- The United Nations General Assembly will debate the situation in Syria on Monday, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
UN Security Council (UNSC), during a meeting on Feb 4, rejected a draft resolution supporting a peace plan of Arab League in order to stop violence in Syria due to Russia and China's veto.
Meanwhile Saudi Arabia is preparing a draft resolution on Syria to present it for voting at the general assembly.
According to AA, the draft was very similar to the one which was earlier prepared by Morocco and rejected by UNSC.
The draft resolution expresses deep concern about the situation in Syria, the ongoing violation of human rights and violence towards the people by the Syrian authorities.
It calls on Syrian administration to end human rights violations and attacks on civilians as well as to protect its own people and fulfill its responsibilities under international laws.
Extending a strong support to sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria, the draft resolution said that it is necessary to solve political crisis in Syria in a peaceful way.
It condemns Syrian authorities which had used force against civilians, arrest, kill and torture people.
Compared to the vetoed draft, the current one requests UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to assign a special representative to solve the crisis in Syria in a peaceful way, and seeks UN technical and financial assistance for the Arab League observer mission.
