Police confirm constable was murdered

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Police have confirmed that the constable found dead under a flyover in Batu Caves here last night was killed by a blow to the head with a blunt and heavy object.

Sentul police chief ACP Zakaria Pagan said this was confirmed after they received the post-mortem report on V.Divendran, 25, this afternoon.

"The victim did not have any other injuries but we haven't determined if he was murdered elsewhere before being dumped at the scene," he said when contacted here, today.

Divendran, who was attached to the Seremban police headquarters was reported missing three days ago, before a passerby found his body at 7.30 pm last night.

Meanwhile, the victim's uncle who wanted to be known only as Jaya, also a policeman from the Shah Alam headquarters, said he had identified the body as his nephew.

Met outside Hospital Kuala Lumpur's Forensic Room today, Jaya said he was on his way home from duty in Batu Caves last night, when he had been stopped by a passerby saying a body had been found.

He called in the matter after seeing the body but felt moved to check it again while waiting for the forensic team and that is when he recognised it was his nephew, said Jaya.

Divendran's distraught father M. Veeramogan, 55, said his son was due to get engaged this June and they were scheduled to visit his intended fiancee today.

He described Divendran, who had been in the police force for the past four years, as a good son.
