Liao (L) has met many voluntary workers along the way. Many have eventually become his friends.
Every day, Liao moves around with this motorcycle to collect reusable garbage, while feeding some stray dogs and cats along the way.
Liao has also published some writings on environment.
Liao Guansheng, is known as a Messenger of Environment, garbage collector, collector of stray doigs and cats. He is also an author.
He might be living in the midst of garbage and stray dogs in Johor Bahru but Liao Guangsheng is actually the Messenger of Environment with a Buddha-like heart.
Everyone hates stray dogs, and no one has any passion for garbage either. But when the night falls, or when the first ray of light begins to break through the horizon at dawn, Liao Guangshyeng is always working laboriously for these loathsome stuff, come rain or shine.
| "Liao has been picking up garbage for recycling for more than 10 years now." |
Since his mother passed away more than 10 years ago, his focus of life has been clearly placed on the care for the environment. With a little patience, faith, persistence and determination, he has been lighting up a ray of light for the world we are living in.
Every day, Liao Guangsheng shuttles among the alleys, roadsides, drains, rivers, beaches and rubbish dumps, and picks up whatever that can be recycled. Whenever he comes across things like rice cookers or other electrical appliances which are still usable, he would give them away to old folks' homes or orphanages.
Besides, he would also send the recyclable garbage to charitable institutions to raise money for old folks' homes.
Plastic pails and tin cans might be filthy and smelly, they can be turned into money, and love!
If you are asking him whether he feels lonely this way, the 44-year-old single man will tell you he has never thought of this problem.
Liao has been picking up garbage for recycling for more than 10 years now. Before he sets off for his collecting stint each morning, he would do some cooking, not for himself, but the stray dogs and cats he would encounter along the way.
So, while he is picking up anything that can still be reused, he is also feeding the stray dogs and cats.
Other than doing his bit for the environment, Liao has also penned down his experiences in a book on charity, with the hope of encouraging other people to do good and help.
In addition, he will also be publishing another book on environment preservation later this month. Proceeds from the sale of this book would go to charity.
Those interested in his books can contact him personally at 016-785 2350. (Translated by DOMINIC LOH/ Sin Chew Daily)
