Lim Si Pin to step down as Gerakan Youth chief next year

KUALA LUMPUR, Friday 8 October 2010 (Bernama) -- Gerakan Youth chief Lim Si Pin said today that he would relinquish his post after his term ended next year (2011) and will continue to serve the party as a regular member.

He said his appointment as Gerakan Youth for the 2008-2011 term was done in a democratic process, when he garnered 52.9% of the Youth votes in a three corner fight.

"It wasn't handed to me on a silver platter," he said.

"Please do not insult the collective votes by the youth members by making speculation in the newspapers. I am very sad that people make allegations about a Lim Dynasty in the media," he told reporters here today.

Lim, who is also the son of the former Gerakan president Tun Dr Lim Keng Yaik, stressed that he was not interested to hold any top posts.

Meanwhile, Lim said Gerakan Youth would institute a process to train and groom the next generation of young leaders in preparing them for the coming general election and help the party win back seats it lost in the last.
