SEREMBAN, Wednesday 28 July 2010 (Bernama) -- Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has expressed regret that certain groups are trying to mislead the people regarding the expansion of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) Sungai Salak in Lukut.
The issue cropped up following an error in the letter from a staff of the Education Ministry to the school stating that the state government had promised to provide six acres of land, he said.
"We have never promised to give six acres of land. The land around the school is only three acres, and the error in the letter has become an issue to ridicule the government as though we have reneged on our promise," he told reporters after the State Exco meeting today.
Following the error in the letter, the ministry had already sent a subsequent letter to correct the fact stated earlier and the issue should have been resolved, he said.
The school was being expanded by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government including erecting an additional block costing RM3.4 million and it was being converted into a fully government-aided school, he said.
"We fulfill the promise made to the constituents there during the last by-election but certain groups are trying to instigate the people against the state government just because of the error in information in the letter," he said.
Meanwhile, Mohamad praised the move by the BN government to allow teachers in the DG41 to DG48 grades to be involved in politics as reported in the press today.
"The approval given by the administration is perceived to be a very positive move, because teachers always mingle with the community," he said.
The Menteri Besar said teachers were a knowledgeable lot, they knew about history and could explain to the children on the meaning of the country's struggles and issues of national interest.
