KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 (Bernama) -- The government will not compromise on anybody found leaking military secrets, including the Dewan Rakyat to leak official military secrets for their own benefit.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi issued the warning when answering a question by Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) with regard to the country's defence and coastal safety at Dewan Rakyat here today.
Bung Mokhtar had wanted to know whether there was any imminent threat to the security of the country due to a delay in the operating schedule of the newly acquired submarine KD Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
Ahmad Zahid said the country's security, including along Malaysian waters was stable due to a number of factors.
"Firstly, we have an agreement with neighbouring countries and no problems in security or defence. Secondly, our military assets, especially strategic assets are used for surveillance, not for provocation purposes," he said.
That is why any attempt to leak military information or secrets for the benefit of companies or individuals would be detrimental to the defence of the country, he said.
He added that the country would also acquire a second submarine to complement KD Tunku Abdul Rahman.
To another question by William Leong Jee Keen (PKR-Selayang) with regard to problems in KD Tunku Abdul Rahman which was not allowed to dive as scheduled, Ahmad Zahid said not all military issues and strategic assets can become politicised.
"By doing so it can reveal the strength or weakness of a country to outsiders. All such matters will be handled by the government with care," he said.
