KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said she would discuss with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom on reviewing a number of issues involving syariah.
She said it was time to do so as syariah issues especially pertaining to the Islamic Family Law were under the states' jurisdiction.
"I will discuss with the minister issues especially pertaining to the family institution, children, divorce, maintenance and custody which need review," she said in the 'Hello Malaysia' interview programme over Bernama TV.On women's fertility, Shahrizat said in Malaysia the rate had declined.
"From our study in 1991, a family on the average had three or four children but the figure had declined to two in 2007."
She said the situation was due to several factors including late marriages and postponing having children.
"When I asked why the delay, they gave economic factor and lack of support facilities in caring for children," she said.
