KEMAMAN, March 13 (Bernama)-- Terengganu Umno liaison committee chairman, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein refuses to entertain any speculation via short message service (SMS) messages regarding the position of Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said which had been sent widely of late.
Hishammuddin, who is also Home Minister, did not rule out the possibility that this had been done by people who wanted to destabilise the harmony of the committee.
"Since I came to Terengganu, I received SMS and heard stories from both within Umno and the opposition about the Menteri Besar's position.
"It's not from the groups within the state Umno but I cannot rule out it is done by certain individuals. However, this cannot determine the rise or fall of Terengganu Umno," he said after the Maulidur Rasul celebration at the Kemaman parliamentary level in Chukai here today.
Hishammuddin said as the liaison committee chairman he only recognised those who had been accepted by the people, worked hard and rejected narrow politics like personal and divisional politicking.
He also called on the media not to be easily influenced by rumours and SMSs on the matter.
"Why believe SMSs when they can see the MB daily. If he has resigned he will not be with us today," he said.
"Do not follow those who purposely want to make use of the media and the media should not allow themselves to used so that we quarrel," he said.
Earlier, Hishammuddin headed a procession of about 30,000 people from 405 continjents made up of government bodies, the private sector, NGOs and students that walked seven kilometres around Chukai.
Also in the procession was Said and Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek who is also Kemaman Member of Parliament.
