MIRI, March 11 (Bernama) -- Tourists guides in Sarawak were told today to attain a good level of knowledge on the places of interests to relate comprehensive information to tourists.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan, who is also state Tourism and Heritage minister, said they should not stop at just accompanying tourists but should become resource persons that tourists could turn to for information.

"Otherwise people would find it not interesting to come to Sarawak because you (tourist guides) do not know the story behind it (tourism attractions)," he said.

He made the remarks after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Miri City Council and Alaric Soh Production Company to organise this year's Miss Tourism Intercontinental World Grand Final beauty contest here on May 20.
