Three pre-school children attacked by insane man reported in stable condition

JOHOR BAHARU, March 11 (Bernama) -- Three pre-school children who suffered head injuries after being attacked with a hammer by an insane man at Tadika Sinario in Lorong Haji Ali, Jalan Abdul Rahman, near Muar yesterday were reported to be in stable condition.

Johor Women, Family, Community Development and Health Committee chairman Dr Robia Kosai said Nur Nadhrah Nabilah Mohd Yusri, Alex Tan Kar Eik and Vincent Tay Hui Seng were admitted to the children's ward of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here after being transferred from the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar, yesterday.

"All three, aged six, who suffered fractured skulls were transferred to HSA because a number of neurologist are available in the hospital," Dr Robia told reporters after visiting the three victims of a brutal attack by the man.

Dr Robia said after going through initial tests by a neurologist, the injuries suffered by all three children, had not affected the brains.

She said Vincent Tay was looking healthy and could be discharged tomorrow while Alex Tan and Nur Nadhrah would undergo another test today.

Dr Robia also urged parents of children at Tadika Sinario to take their children for counseling service to help overcome their trauma after witnessing the incident.

Though it was a rare incident, kindergartens should increase security and administer their premises according to procedures and guidelines set by the authorities.

Nur Nadhrah's mother Farah Asyikin Abu Samah, 27, said except for a little vomiting, her daughter was okay, but hinted she might have to change her daughter's kindergarten because she does not want to go back to the same one.

Alex Tan's mother, Tay Mui Ling, 31, meanwhile, hoped the police would track down the assailant to prevent another such incident.

During the 10am incident yesterday, a man wearing a helmet, spectacle and a black outfit, believed to be insane, gate-crashed Tadika Sinario and threatened about 20 children before attacking kindergarten operator Voon Siew Kion, 45, and three children, with a hammer.

Meanwhile, Muar Police Chief ACP Nasir Mohamad Ali said they have launched a manhunt for the man who escaped on a motorcycle but have yet to track down the man.

"We believe the man is still in the area. I appeal to the public to be on the look out and inform the police if they came across any suspicious individual," he said.

Nasir said those with information can contact him at 019-7000150 or call the Muar police Headquarters at 06-9526222.
