Teoh the legal father of his newborn son

PUTRAJAYA: Thanks to the help from home minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Teoh Beng Hock's name can now be put as the name of the father of his newborn son.

From what we have learned, a government official once suggested that DNA tests be conducted on Soh Cher Wei's child for identification purposes but the proposal has since been rejected by the home minister.

Hishammuddin felt that all it needed was a sworn letter to prove that Teoh and Soh were legally married.

Thanks to Hishammuddin's effort, the Cabinet finally agreed to let Teoh's name be put as the father of the child in the birth certificate.

According to the information we have received, Hishammuddin instantly conveyed his congratulatory message after learning that Soh had given birth to a healthy 2.9kg male baby.

It is learned that Hishammuddin has discussed the matter with the chief prosecutor, home ministry chief secretary as well as his legal advisor, as the matter involves legal complications and the ministry does not want unnecessary problems arising from such a precedence.

It is also said that Teoh's family has learned about the good news on Chinese New Year eve but has remained tight-lipped over the past several days. (Translated by DOMINIC LOH/Sin Chew Daily)
