GRO detained on suspicion of drug trafficking

KUANTAN, Feb 1 (Bernama) -- A guest relations officer (GRO) at a Karaoke centre here was detained on suspicion of being involved in drug trafficking in Pahang since the middle of last year.

According to Pahang Police Chief Datuk Robiah Abdul Ghani, the 24-year-old suspect was detained at about 2am yesterday in an operation codenamed 'Ops Tapis Bersepadu'.

"Upon checking the suspect's rented room in Taman Setali, near here, police found 2.4 grams of syabu drugs besides 30 grams of heroin and five psychotropic pills worth about RM5,000 which were hidden in a toothpaste box, as well as proceeds from the sale of the drug amounting to RM713," she told reporters, here today.

The suspect is believed to be involved in drug trafficking in Kuantan and Jengka, Maran and indulging in the activity on her own.

On the same day, three men were also arrested while they were in a car at the car park in Arked Buah, Jalan Besar near here.

Robiah said that upon checking the men, aged between 30 and 49, police found 444.4 grams of heroin, and two psychotropic pills hidden in the stockings and trouser pockets of the suspects. The drugs were worth RM50,000.

"Police also found RM3,763 in cash and the syndicate is believed to be active in Pahang, Terengganu, Johor and Kelantan," she said.

All the three men from Kelantan and Terengganu were being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, 336 people were detained in the operation from Monday until yesterday.
