Penang bans civil servants from attending BTN courses

PENANG, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- The Penang government has banned civil servants in the state from attending Biro Tata Negara (BTN) or National Civics Bureau courses with immediate effect.

Deputy Chief Minister I Mansor Othman said the move was taken as BTN courses had negative effects and were used by Barisan Nasional (BN) to spread propaganda.

The state government did not need BTN courses as it had created its own modules and courses to improve the performance of civil servants since it ruled Penang, he told a press conference at the state assembly lobby here today.

Mansor said the backbenchers club would table a motion in the assembly on Friday urging the federal government to abolish BTN courses and review courses at Institut Tadbiran Awam Negara (Intan) or the National Institute of Public Administration.

Backbenchers club representative Sim Tze Tzin (PKR-Pantai Jerejak) said the motion was necessary as it received many negative reports from those who attended BTN courses.

The Selangor government last week banned civil servants and students at state institutions of higher learning from attending BTN courses with immediate effect.
