11 more primary schools to adopt Pintar Learning System - Ongkili

KUDAT, Nov 21 (Bernama) -- Eleven more primary schools in rural Sabah and Sarawak will soon adopt the Pintar Learning System, a community project by the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti), its minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said.

He said so far two schools had adopted the system, the latest being SK Tinangol in Matunggong, here, after the successful completion of the system's pilot project at SK Nanga Kesit in Lubok Antu, Sarawak in April.

"Mosti is playing a strategic role in introducing smart learning to help improve the academic performances of students in the rural areas.

"This way, rural students will also get the same opportunity as students in urban schools to use smart learning tools in their classrooms," Ongkili said when launching the system at SK Tinangol today.

He said the 11 schools -- six in Sabah and five in Sarawak -- would each receive RM55,000 under the ministry's community innovative fund to adopt the learning method in their classrooms.

The system, developed by Sirim Berhad, was a way to bring technologies to the communities by equipping classrooms with interactive whiteboard system which uses interactive software, electronic whiteboard, computer and projector, to make the lessons more fun and effective, he said.

Ongkili said that through the system, in which the software content could be created by the teachers, the students would participate more actively in classes and hence, become more creative and innovative in solving problems.

"This is our contribution towards promoting the appreciation of science and mathematics, especially among students in the rural areas who must not be left behind.

"This will also help in developing our human capital in science, mathematics and technology," he added.
