KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 21 (Bernama) -- A second wave of floods has hit Terengganu with water rising in most of the main rivers and a few having exceeded the warning level this morning.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued an orange stage warning today in all districts in Terengganu and Kelantan with moderate monsoon rain expected to persist until next week.
More than 81 victims from 14 families have been evacuated un the Hulu Terengganu district yesterday - 61 of the evacuees (10 families) are from Kampung Ceting and the others are from Kampung Peris.
A spokesman at the Hulu Terengganu police operations room said five roads had been closed due to the floods since yesterday .
They are Jalan Kuala Kejil-Jalan Kampung Jak, which is under 1.5m of water and Jalan Kampung Lubok Periok-Felda Tersat, which is under 1m of water. The two roads are closed to all vehicles.
Jalan Pengkalan Ajal-Felda Tersat, Jalan Pengkalan Ajal-Kampung Matang and Jalan Kampung Matang-Kampung Nibong are under 0.5m to 0.7m of water and closed to light vehicles.
A Drainage and Irrigation Department said the water at Sungai Telemong in Kampung Ping, Hulu Terengganu, had risen to 19.7m and exceeded its danger level of 19.5m.
The water level at Sungai Marang in Pengkalan Berangan and Sungai Besut in Kampung La has almost the warning mark at 13.05m and 18.16m respectively at 8am today. The danger level of the two rivers is 13.2m and 18.2m respectively.
Bernama has been informed that the State Security Council will open its Flood Operations Room when floods in the state have hit two districts.
In PAHANG, the number of flood evacuees remain at 24 people comprising three families from Kampung Sungai Ular who were evacuated yesterday afternoon.
However, a spokesman from the state police operations room said the victims might be allowed to return home today as the situation in their village had returned to normal.
