Process going on to bring back Terengganu fishermen from Indonesia

KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The process to bring back five Terengganu fishermen who were detained by Indonesian fishing authorities is being undertaken by the Malaysian consul's office in Pontianak.

Che Wan Zainuddin Che Wan Ngah, 36, the elder brother of the boat's skipper said he understands that the process will take some time as it involves aspects of law.

He said as the skipper, his brother, Che Wan Budiman, 32, had to undergo various processes of law while the other four did not have to do that and were in the process of being sent back to Terengganu earlier.

Che Wan Zainuddin said his brother, who was shot during the incident on Nov 12, suffered injury to his left arm.

"I spoke to him yesterday. He said his injury was not serious as the bullet did not hit the arm's bone but went through his arm," Che Wan Zainuddin said when met here today.

In the incident on Nov 12, Che Wan Budiman; Musa Mohammad, 33; Ahmad Puad, 23; Mohd Arif Rosli, 20; and Ahmad Faisal Sulong, 23; from Seberang Takir here were detained by Indonesian authorities after they were said to have entered the neighbouring country's waters while fishing.

The fishermen tried to flee when ordered to stop and this caused the Indonesians to open fire.

He said Che Wan Budiman's wife, Zuraiha Embong, in her 20's, together with Kuala Nerus Member of Parliament, Datuk Mohd Nasir Ibrahim Fikri, as well as several Puteri Umno members had left for Pontianak to monitor the situation.

“I also understand that Malaysian Consulate officers in Pontianak are monitoring the situation and would inform the family here of current developments.

"I am thankful that my brother and his mates are safe. I also thank those who have taken my sister-in-law to meet her husband," he said.
