Ministry seals cyber cafe for using pirated software

PENANG, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The Penang chapter of the domestic trade, cooperative and consumerism ministry has sealed a cyber cafe in Bukit Mertajam for using pirated computer software.

Its enforcement division seized 29 central processing units and computer hardware which used the pirated software worth about RM61,000, during a raid yesterday.

A 32-year-old woman, believed to be the cyber cafe owner, was detained to facilitate investigations.

Division head M. Guna Selan said during the 2.50pm raid, enforcement officers also found 74 copies of pirated software worth RM104,000.

"Initial investigation revealed that the 24-hour cyber cafe had been using unlicenced software over the past two years," he told a press conference here today.
