KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- The Meteorological Department has warned the possibility of flooding in low-lying areas of Kelantan and Terengganu due to intermittent rain occasionally heavy category yellow forecast until Tuesday.

It said in Pahang, the intermittent rain occasionally heavy category yellow was expected to last till tomorrow and could cause flooding in low-lying areas near river banks.

The affected areas are Jerantut, Kuantan, Pekan, Maran and Rompin.

Category yellow is the first phase where heavy rain and thunderstorm is expected for 24 to 48 hours.

The department also issued a warning on strong easterly winds up to 50 kph and rough seas up to 3.5 metres till Sunday off Kelantan and Terengganu, and off Sabah (Layang-layang, Palawan and Kudat).

"The strong winds and high seas are dangerous to small boats, sea recreation activities and water sports," said the department in a statement.

It said Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang's shoreline would experience higher sea levels till tomorrow.
