Father of Jackson accuser commits suicide: police

NEW YORK, Nov 18 (AFP) - The father of a boy who alleged he was sexually molested by pop star Michael Jackson shot himself in the head in his luxury New Jersey apartment, police said Wednesday.

Evan Chandler, 65, was found dead in his Jersey City apartment still holding his personal weapon, a .38 caliber pistol, police spokesman Stan Eason told AFP.

"He was found by the concierge after they went to check on him because he'd been ill and he didn't turn up for a doctor's appointment," Eason said.

The death was considered a suicide, but no note was left, Eason said.

Chandler's son, who was 13 at the time, accused the so-called "king of pop" in 1993 of sexually molesting him at the Neverland Ranch in California.

Jackson settled out of court, paying out a multi-million dollar settlement.

Jackson died on June 25 in Los Angeles after a prescription drug overdose.
