KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Former assemblyman for Kota Siputeh Datuk Abu Hassan Sarif today filed an appeal against the High Court decision yesterday which declared the state seat vacant and that he was no longer the assemblyman for the seat.
Abu Hassan filed the notice of appeal at the High Court registry here at 1.35 p.m. through his counsel Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun.
Copies of the notice of appeal will be served on the counsel for Kedah Speaker Datuk Dr Abdul Isa Ismail and the Attorney-General's Chambers, said Mohd Hafarizam when he was contacted here today.
Yesterday, Justice Datuk Alizatul Khair Osman Khairuddin, in allowing a judicial review sought by Abdul Isa, ruled that the seat was vacated after Abu Hassan absented from two consecutive state assembly meetings this year.
Following the decision, Abu Hassan from Barisan Nasional, was barred from attending the state legislative assembly today.
The court also ordered for a fresh election to be held for Kota Siputeh which is under the Jerlun parliamentary constituency in Kedah.
