Two state assembly sittings were held for one Perak. Three forces are fighting for one MCA.
What a chaos!
And everything is because of integrity. Because of integrity, Perak went through a regime change and the never-ending dispute has been brought to court.
It is also because of integrity, MCA is facing a party crisis in which it has lost its direction, the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) has been wasted while the Central Committee split.
Therefore, the Perak assembly sitting and political affairs continue to be left idle.
Therefore, the MCA leadership and party affairs continue to be left idle.
Politicians should be able to accept losses.
Majority rule has always been the basic principle of democracy. There will be no democracy without the basic principle.
| "But we must admit that the principle of majority rule is not absolutely correct." |
But we must admit that the principle of majority rule is not absolutely correct. In politics, it is a common phenomenon and not surprising to see a few smart people defeat a large number of less intelligent ones.
It is the rule for the democratic game. Despite its flaws, you have to follow it once you join.
Losing one seat means you have lost, losing one vote means you have lost. The loser must step down and it looks just as simple as that. There is nothing to be argued.
But it is not the same for politicians. They can manipulate power and change political directions. They can abandon their integrity for political interests and have their own interpretations for a result.
Who will actually admit that he or she is shameless?
If those who are engaged in politics turn shameless one after another, not accidentally, but inevitably, political chaos will occur.
Day after day, political turmoil in Perak continues.
Day after day, party crisis in MCA continues.
What do the people feel when they see the “greater unity plan” which is not really uniting the party, but triggering other disputes, just like a long-winded Taiwanese soap opera; and the farce of double-sitting for Perak Assembly, including the scene when the speaker's robe of the former Speaker is torn?
They will sign and wonder why our political arena is so dark, dirty and full of lust for power. They will be frustrated as our politicians have lost their “integrity” and revealed their evil features one after another.
They sign and be frustrated because those who were supposed to be the mainstays and exemplary models of the country have all turned into negative examples. They prioritise their own interests and cast integrity aside. One by one, their personalities have been horribly distorted.
Perhaps, we may gain back money and economic losses but the lost integrity will bring endless troubles. How are we going to rectify the harm it causes in human nature and democracy in a few years time?
We will have hope only when the integrity crisis is ended! (By LIM MUN FAH/Translated by SOONG PHUI JEE/Sin Chew Daily)
