Opposition assemblymen may not attend Perak Assembly sitting

IPOH, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- Opposition assemblymen might not attend the Perak State Assembly sitting scheduled for Wednesday, if the police fail to give an assurance on their safety.

Opposition Backbenchers' Club chairman Khalil Idham Lim said the decision, however, would be finalised by the state opposition leadership.

"We aim to attend the sitting...we will leave it to the leadership to decide otherwise," he told a press conference at the Perak PAS headquarters here today.

Yesterday, Perak PAS Commissioner Abu Bakar Hussain said the opposition assemblymen would lodge a report to ask the police to ensure their safety before and during the sitting.

Perak police chief Datuk Zulkefli Abdullah, when contacted, said the police would ensure the safety of Barisan Nasional and opposition assemblymen during the sitting.
