KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein will ensure the ministry fully utilises its RM3.7 billion allocation in the 2010 Budget to increase the efficiency of the police and security personnel.
"I will also ensure they work hard to achieve the National Key Result Areas to reduce the crime index by five per cent, and the street crime index by 20 per cent, by the end of next year," he said in a statement here today.
He said, some of the funds would also be used to purchase 50 passenger vans, 400 units of 9mm guns and uniforms for members of the People's Volunteer Corps and the Civil Defence Department.
Besides upgrading facilities and infrastructure at police stations and establishing the Police Contingent Training School, the government would also buy communication equipment, aircraft and information techonology systems, among others, he said.
According to Hishamuddin, 35 projects for quarters, office and building renovation were expected to be ready by next year.
He said the projects involved six quarters, two police contingent headquarters, 10 district police headquarters, nine police stations, three general operations force units, police academy, police training centre, senior police mess, lock-up, store and a marine police base.
At the same time, the minister added, 25 development projects, 12 projects for upgrading and 12 other projects under the Prime Minister's Department were expected to be completed in the same year. (Bernama)
