PORT DICKSON, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Newly elected Bagan Pinang assemblyman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad wants to help the Barisan Nasional (BN) win back the Teluk Kemang parliamentary seat.
He also wants the BN to win back the other state seats under the constituency, namely Port Dickson, Chuah and Lukut.
"Our victory in Bagan Pinang has shown that the non-Malays and the young people have returned to the BN fold. We will continue with the momentum to wrest the seats that we lost in the 2008 general election," he told reporters after the Teluk kemang Umno division meeting here today.
The Teluk Kemang parliamentary and Chuah and Port Dickson state seats are held by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) while Lukut, which has a predominantly Chinese population, is under the DAP. Linggi and Bagan Pinang are under the BN.
Mohd Isa said he would plan the strategies after meeting all the leaders of the BN component parties soon.
Asked whether he was offended that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad did not campaign for him like he did for other BN candidates in past by-elections, he said that the former prime minister probably knew that he would win the by-election
"Tun knows the voters in Teluk Kemang and their relationship with me. In his heart, Tun knew that I would win," he said.
He said that at today's meeting he asked the branch leaders to list the problems that the BN needed to fix so that he could attend to them as soon as possible.
Most of them related to the upgrading of roads and the building of a better draing system, he said.
