No HINI deaths in two weeks

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- No influenza A (H1N1) related deaths have been reported in weeks, leaving the death toll at 77 people.

Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said the last HINI related death was reported on Sept 19.

He said 184 patients with influenza like illness (ILI) were admitted to hospital today. Of the total 726 patients with ILI, 75 were positive H1N1.

"Sixteen of the 75 patients were treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)," he said in a statement today.

Dr Mohd Ismail said 15 of the 16 cases in ICU had risk factors. They include seven children under five years old, six with chronic illnesses and two obese.

He stressed that the spread of influenza A (H1N1) in the community was still active despite a reduction in cases of late.

"The public should remain cautious and taken preventive measures particularly during festive season where gather at open houses," he said.
